Seeking World Domination
Blog Entry on the Monday 03rd, November, 2008
For my latest attempts at world domination, (previous steps).Application form - Tick.
The next part has four steps, but I can be eliminated at any step in the process. No more plain vanilla interviews - the first step tomorrow is a "Role Play", very little details on what it will entail.
This should be a fun week.

Seeking World Domination (2)
Blog Entry on the Tuesday 04th, November, 2008
In the continuing saga ...Wow the "Role Play" was in the words of Colin was "A bit hardcore"
You are the Manager, you have an Employee (Actor) who has performance, development, discrimination, personal and a whole load of other things for you to "Manage". Thirty minutes to read the brief, thirty minutes to interact with the Employee.
I really think this is an excellent way to differentiate between the people applying. Really interesting post-mortem with a couple of other candidates.
Next step Friday. A "Group Discussion", many years ago I was the assessor for a group discussion. Topic: Unknown.
Fun, Fun, Fun.

Seeking World Domination (3)
Blog Entry on the Friday 07th, November, 2008
In the continuing saga ...Today was "Group Discussion", I rather liked today's assessment.
All six candidates in a room. Everyone is a Director in a fictional company. As a group we have to save £XXX,XXX.
Each brief is different, you have some background of how the section you are in charge of could save money. Option A, Option B and Option C. Each with a cost and a dis-benefit. Working in a group, decide how to make the cost saving which is best for the company whilst defending your departments budget.
At the end of the hour, we had all agreed on the best way forward and achieved the target saving. Then we had each had to mark in private how we thought everyone in the group performed (including you) and who was best as X, Y and Z. I think I did much better at today's exercise than Tuesday's. Is it bad to mark yourself top ?
I will know early next week if I got through to the next stage as it time for the field to be trimmed before the next task.
Fun, Fun, Fun.

On the road to Wembley
Blog Entry on the Saturday 08th, November, 2008
A small step back on the road to Wembley. To quote wikipedia, AFC Wimbledon, the team I support:-
The club was founded by dissident supporters of Wimbledon F.C., led by Kris Stewart, in May 2002, when the Football Association agreed to allow Wimbledon FC to relocate 56 miles north to the new town of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire and in the view of these fans cutting all ties with the area of Wimbledon. We started at the bottom, I was at the Sutton Utd game. On Monday we are though and play in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup:-
All Premier League and Football League clubs may enter. Non-league clubs may also enter if they competed in the previous season's FA Cup, FA Trophy, or FA Vase competition and are deemed to be playing in an "acceptable" league for the current season. All clubs entering the competition must have a suitable stadium. It a long way away from the heights of the Premier league, but it may be a small step on the long road back.
In other news, a video of Charlie and Connor watching Charlie watching TV.

Seeking World Domination (4)

Still seeking world domination.... [1] [2] [3]I through to the next stage. Unseen presentation and 1st Interview. (The 1s Interview suggestion there may be more). I am going to be interviewed by my Big-Boss and his peers (total panel of four), in three weeks time. Time to think of some answers, (how, what, why, where, how much).

Well 1-4 not too bad and Dasher.
Blog Entry on the Thursday 13th, November, 2008
Monday night - well apart from Wycombe being stronger, fitter and faster AFC Wimbledon did not do too bad.
Yes - the match was on the live TV, not bad for a club run by its fans.
A couple of quick soft goals hurt. After when we pulled it back to 1-2, we were thinking just maybe, just maybe.
Anyway more midweek games on the horizon.
One for Jure.
Dasher is amazing.
A big advantage of Dasher over other predictive text-entry interfaces that offer word-completions to the user is that it is mode-free: the user does not need to switch from a writing mode to an "accept-model-predictions" mode.
To make the interface efficient, we use the predictions of a language model to determine how much of the world is devoted to each piece of text. Probable pieces of text are given more space, so they are quick and easy to select. Improbable pieces of text (for example, text with spelling mistakes) are given less space, so they are harder to write. The language model learns all the time: if you use a novel word once, it is easier to write next time.
It is a fantastic way to input text. I ending up going to bed late, as I was watching the presentation about dasher given at Google. It is hard to explain, watch the video, imagine writing/typing by driving a car.
sudo apt-get install dasher
Got to love Debian.

Video of Connor reading one of his favorite books, Monkey Puzzle:-
While we are at it, some cute photos (the last one is a video) of Connor, Charlie and glasses.
Also working on examples for the interview on the 4th. Given that the Acting Chief Engineer, the other Team Leader and a host of Principal Engineers (not to mention Interim Head of Real Time Operations) have all be out for best part of two weeks. [Man flu] I might have some recent examples.

Hi Jure,Wow - fairly spot on, thank-you typealyzer.com ...
ISTP - The Mechanics
The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generally prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts.
The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters.
