Reduced Wiki Spam
Blog Entry on the Wednesday 23rd, March, 2005
I have a nice simple wiki running in my website. My Mum and Sister-in-law use it.
After getting lots of vile wiki spam. I do not want to stop people using my wiki or explain to wiki users the what spam is and why my wiki has been defaced.
I decided to change the edit to ed1t, both in the text of the page and and the url. This is how spammers get though email filters.
The embedded text is used by spammers to google to find a wiki. The url change stops submit robots defacing the wiki, I am still getting hits by bots with edit in the url, trying to deface the wiki with the same text, from different IP addresses (zombies).
I made this change for over the last week and _not_ had any spam, only real posts. I would suggest changing your standard wiki scripts to make the edit action slightly different from the norm.
